Ganesh Chaturthi: A Special Yoga Practice
Thursday 17 September | 6:30–8:00 pm
Wellington Meditation Centre
Ganesh Chaturthi Yoga
A special yoga practice honouring Ganesha: wisdom, obstacles and, new beginnings.
Ganesh Chaturthi is a Hindu festival celebrating Lord Ganesha, one of the most loved and recognisable deities in Hindu tradition. Often known as the remover of obstacles, Ganesha is also associated with wisdom, discernment and beginnings.
But what does it actually mean to work with an obstacle?
Not every obstacle needs to be pushed through or immediately removed. Some ask us to pause. Some ask us to change direction. Some reveal something we haven't been willing or perhaps, able and ready to see.
In this special practice, we'll spend time with the stories, symbolism and philosophy of Gaṇeśa and explore what they might offer us in our own lives.
We’ll weave this through a grounding yoga practice incorporating āsana (movement), prāṇāyāma (breath), mantra and reflection, with space to simply experience the practice rather than needing to intellectualise it.
My own family has celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi for years, and Gaṇeśa has been present in my spiritual and musical practice since childhood. This offering is part of my ongoing work of reclaiming and decolonising my relationship with yoga, and bringing more of the culture, philosophy and spirituality I grew up around back into the way I teach.
You don't need to be Hindu, know anything about Ganesha, or have an established yoga practice to attend. You’re welcome to come and learn, listen and practice alongside us.
All props are provided, bring a journal, pen, and something cosy to move in.
Sliding-scale pricing: $25–$35
The standard price for this practice is $35. If a lower rate makes the practice more accessible for you, use code SPYOGA25 at checkout to attend for $25, or SPYOGA30 to pay $30. You don't need to explain or justify your choice.
